Boston Baroque Rings in the Holidays with Two Cherished Traditions

On December 7 and 8, Boston Baroque ushers in the holiday season with two annual productions: Handel’s timeless Messiah and the joyous New Year’s Celebration concerts featuring treasured Baroque works. This year’s New Year’s Celebration holds special significance as founder Martin Pearlman conducts his final New Year's concert, marking an astounding 52-year journey of musical excellence since he founded the orchestra.

BOSTON, MA [November 13, 2024] – Boston Baroque’s 52nd season brings back two enduring holiday traditions: Handel’s Messiah and the festive New Year’s Celebration. Messiah will be performed on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 3 PM. The New Year’s Celebration performances will take place on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 8 PM and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 3 PM.

Under the direction of Music Director Martin Pearlman, known for his GRAMMY®-nominated interpretation, Handel’s Messiah will present the complete oratorio and will include an intermission. Since introducing Boston audiences to period-instrument performances of Messiah in 1981, Boston Baroque’s annual performances of the work have become an extraordinary musical tradition. The cast will feature the return of soprano Maya Kherani and baritone Jesse Blumberg and the Boston Baroque debuts of contralto Avery Amereau and tenor Omar Najmi.

This jubilant New Year’s Celebration will bring together cherished works and unique gems to welcome the New Year. Boston Baroque will perform Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins with Christina Day Martinson and Sarah Darling, Bach’s Coffee Cantata featuring rising star Angela Yam, and Vivaldi’s Recorder Concerto in C major with virtuoso Aldo Abreu, among other selections.

Tickets for in-person performances are available online at https://baroque.boston or by calling the Box Office at (617) 987-8600. Prices range from $25 to $175.
